Victory Kicks - Winter Games (Vol. 1) [EP] - 2017

Foxes in Fiction - Virgos To Waste - 2017

Rare, one-off and unreleased recordings made between 2010 and 2016.

Dan Cousins I love FiF's experiments and scraps at least as much as 'official' releases. This is a varied, gorgeous collection that plays thru as a coherent yet varied and always beautiful album.. and the fact that it supports those made vulnerable by a change of power made it a no-brainer. Love and support from Sweden!

Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer - Democracy - 2017

Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer have released a new arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s spoken-word song “Democracy” in support of PEN America, an association of writers and editors that works to protect free speech. The song is a response to the results of the presidential election, “as the incoming presidential administration demonstrates increasing disdain for the media and a range of free expression norms.”

Sad! A Barsuk Records Compilation for the ACLU - 2017

Barsuk Records has released 'SAD! (A Barsuk Compilation for the ACLU)', a collection of previously unreleased tracks by Barsuk artists covering other Barsuk artists. Available only on Bandcamp, 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Civil Liberties Union, which works in the nation's courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve individual working rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and the laws of the United States.

“After the election, our staff felt compelled to speak out in defense of the civil liberties of all Americans,” says Grant McCallum of Barsuk Records. “Helping support the crucial work of the ACLU by releasing these new tracks felt like one way we could make a statement and help, and the artists involved were all excited to donate their work”

Don't stop now: a collection of covers - 2017

This compilation is an expression of love, anger, hope and protest on inauguration day. Let it serve as a reminder that the fight for justice is not over, that the celebration of diversity is essential to progress, that we must work together for what is fair and good. Can’t stop. Won’t Stop. Don’t stop now.

All proceeds from this compilation benefit the American Civil Liberties Union, an organization that defends individual freedoms in the face of government abuse, including speech and religion, a woman’s right to choose, the right to due process, and citizens rights to privacy. Each dollar donated will help protect the people of the United States, especially those most vulnerable, from the reckless authority of a Trump presidency.

Her Harbour - Go Gently Into the Night - 2017

The mood is vague and dream-like throughout but such blurriness lends an ever greater sense of both intrigue and wonderment to the track, which, while shaped by solemnity, exudes a sense of calm and, perhaps, hope, amid the surrounding gloam.

Dizzyride - 2017

Their sound transforms minimalism, psychedelia, afro-beat, disco and soul music.

DTCV - Confusion Moderne - 2016

In 2015, while listening to Clifton Chenier’s French Zydeco and the Nouvelle-Vague-inspired Brian Jonestown Massacre album Musique de film imaginé, Lola felt an urge to write songs in her native tongue and the resulting album Confusion Moderne.

Breanna Barbara - Mirage Dreams - 2016

"If you dig Alabama Shakes, there’s a good chance you’ll dig this too," says Brooklyn Vegan about Breanna Barbara, and for good reasons, her new album 'Mirage Dreams' was recorded and produced by their collaborator Andrija Tokic, who also worked with Hurray For The Riff Raff, "it’s swaggering, smoky blues rock, with fuzzed-out riffs, organs, and Breanna’s attitude-fueled voice leading the way."

Old S Resort - Friendly Fire - 2017 single

Influenced by Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Tame Impala, Mac DeMarco, Grimes and Blood Orange.

Eef Barzelay - The Second Coming - 2017

 William Butler Yeats
The Second Coming was written in 1919 in the aftermath
of the first World War.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

    The darkness drops again but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

nancy pants - Vol. 27 EP - 2016

Pikelet - 2007

Fabulous Diamonds II - 2017

Melbourne duo Fabulous Diamonds are an odd pair. They make overtly hypnotic music, full of lulling, sensual repeti- tion, but there’s also an edge of irritation, an undercurrent of friction that cuts through the drone and propels the songs forward.

Camp Cope / Cayetana Split - 2017

2 great songs

Forever and Again, A Tribute to My Bloody Valentine - 2017

I still remember the first time I heard MBV, went to a record store and bought Isn't Anything after reading some reviews about the record and basically knowing the whole band history up until that point. But when Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside) began I was ecstatic, passionate, hypnotized, excited, I had never heard anything like that. And from that moment in 1989, everything would change.

Illuminations - 2017

a bittersweet dagger to your uplifted heart…

"Against the snowfall, a tall Being of Beauty. Whistling of death and the circling of faint music make this adored body rise, expand and quiver like a spectre; wounds of scarlet and black burst from superb flesh. The colours proper to life deepen, dance and detach themselves around this Vision in the making. Shudders rise and groan and the frenetic flavour of these effects fills with that mortal whistling and raucous music that the world, far behind, hurls at our mother of beauty – she recoils, she rears. Oh, our bones are clothed with a new amorous body! Oh, the ashen face; the escutcheon of horsehair, the crystal arms! The cannon I must assault through the melee of trees and the weightless air!"

- Arthur Rimbaud, Illuminations VI: Being Beauteous

Happy Sadness - And Then EP - 2017

Having taken a small lifetime to teach himself how to write proper songs, writing the best part of a thousand pieces of music over the ten plus years, Brown decided to pick himself up, take everything he'd learnt and make something with it. The result, Happy Sadness.

Good Good Blood - Heart Land - 2017

The atmosphere of last few GGB EPs is really evocative and, thematically, quite dark in places – does ‘more raw’ imply being more open/exposed to those darker themes too?

More raw means less instrumental in one sense, but also yes, more direct in the themes and lyrics in another sense. I’ve often changed lyrics to make them less personal but over the last few eps I’ve been moving to a more emotionally honest place. I’ve been going through some mental health issues lately and that’s had a real impact on what I’m writing about lately. It’s perhaps more dark and sparse and simple but more direct and maybe less easy on the ear. I see the last track on this EP as kind of a palette cleanser, it’s 4 mins of nothing much really but it really kind of sums up what I’ve been hearing in my head lately. And, it’s maybe a pointer to where my music will go in the future.
