Midnight Rodeo • Thank You For Your Time • 2023

“Effervescent psychedelia” Clash Magazine

“Spongy cinematic trip…wispy surf rock” So Young Magazine

“A modern day psych-pop classic” Under The Radar

“Now Hear This” The Independent

Marking their first release of the year, ‘Thank You For Your Time’ represents a slight departure from the band’s thus far signature West Coast psychedelic stylings as they continue to diversify their sound. The song lurches in on all fours, with a thunderous rhythm and a smokescreen of dense, resonant feedback and enigmatic synth - more reminiscent of modern Aussie Psychedelic Rock than euphoric 60’s Californication.

Pony in the Pancake • Summer Sun • 2019

The band trades in a lovely warm wash of guitars and verbed-out gang vocals, with the occasional synth to compliment the jangly lead lines, a perfect soundtrack to driving to the beach with the windows down and living up the rest of the summer.

Best of 2016… Plastic Mermaids - Everything is Yellow and Yellow is my Least Favourite Colour

Such a great EP from 2016. Psychedelic Surf Pop at it's very best…
Beyond the Cosmos After Death is by far my fav track on the record...

Hailing from the Isle of Wight, Plastic Mermaids are a timely example of a young British guitar band that sound both fresh and exciting without losing that crucial appetite for melody. With an expansive palette for progressive sounds, they conjure up the chug and groove of a Three EPs era Beta Band, the leftfield, warped pop hooks of Clinic, and the colour and joy of fellow Brits, Glass Animals. Ultimately, it hints at a modern day Brian Wilson with a band all on the same sonic page, and it's as exquisite as that suggests.

Males - Go! - 2015

Avec « Go! », l’humeur espiègle est toujours au beau fixe chez nos kiwis préférés.

Heaters - Holy Water Pool - 2015

Broken shards of the Bo Diddley beat, detritus left behind by the three-eyed men of the Elevators, the amplifier-abuse-turned-illumination of The Warlocks – all feed the rich soil from which “Holy Water Pool” emerges. And perhaps nowhere on “Holy Water Pool” is the fruit of that soil better served than on “Master Splinter,” an instantly-under-your-skin gallop of greatness that lays bare both the unbridled joy and teeth-gnashing distress of what we like to call rock and roll… Onward flows the “Holy Water Pool,” the rambunctious and replenished flow of rock and roll, inviting all for a cleansing, refreshing dip. Michael O. - Really? - 2015

MICHAEL O. (Olivares) of beloved Bay Area psych-pop band THE MANTLES (Slumberland, Siltbreeze etc) has been secretly building songs in his basement in Oakland with the help of HORRID RED's Edmund Xavier for the past few years. The result is this affecting collection of cracked pop hits & tragic ballads. The Mantles are known to lay down a thick electric jangle, but with Michael's solo songs the focus rests on rough-hewn vocal melodies & lyrics, laced with synths, acoustics, noises & clarinet. Michael tumbles headfirst into MODERN LOVERS, JACOBITES, TRONICS, TALL DWARFS territory...home recorded & highly personal but not lo-fi, please.

The Zephyr Bones - Wishes/Fishes - 2014

"Wishes/Fishes is the first EP DIY from The Zephyr Bones. The band, that has been active since last summer presents in this work an oniric trip to summertime sounds and the feeling of the sand under your feet, watered with pop melodies and voices travelling on reverbs.
While you listen to Wishes/Fishes, you can smell the sand and the salt, they get away from the classical sounds to find a better way to tell a summer love story" - Shook Down Underzine
