Euros Childs - Summer Special [2012]
“I like the challenge of making music good enough that people will be willing to pay for it voluntarily”, says Euros. “And as far as the physical copies are concerned, apart from a few sold in shops in Wales, every one has been delivered by post or hand. There’s something very gratifying about that. You’d probably get the same kick if you grew and sold your own vegetables’.

Silver Scooter Split EPs & 7 inch [1996-2000]
Silver Scooter began as a deceptively simple pop trio with the uncanny ability to hit as many emotional chords as musical ones. With their third full-length, The Blue Law, the band evolved into a deceptively sophisticated pop quartet that now hits those chords with an articulate precision, using the studio to silken, not slicken, a tasteful sound that was already tight, controlled and in many ways, perfect. However, beneath the studied polish of their new record breathes a beast.

Exitmusic - Passage [2012]
"You will be engulfed, so dress accordingly. It's a tsunami of pop noise..." - THE GUARDIAN
“Building up a fervent following to the point where each of their CMJ shows is packed with a buzzy concoction of hardcore fans, hipsters and muso-freaks... Gloriously luscious.” - NME
"Rare and beautiful." - NYLON
"The freakishly talented duo of Aleksa Palladino & Devon Church always makes me think of two sweet kids strolling hand-in-hand into Armageddon. It feels ennobling, as reverb roars and Palladino warbles, “We are sparks of light, but we hide it” to suddenly bashful, suddenly human, us." _LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT

Yellow Submarine Resurfaces (2012)
The latest free CD issue from the July, 2012 edition of MOJO Magazine is a tribute to the re-release of the Yellow Submarine DVD and song soundtrack. There are some interesting covers here, especially some of George Harrison’s lost wonders, “It’s All Too Much,” “Only A Northern Song” and “Love You To.” I like Jim White’s “All Together Now,” but only because I already liked his bizarre style. The Cornshed Sisters, who recorded a vocally robust Beach Boys bonus cover for last month’s MOJO, tackle “Nowhere Man” here. Check out the twisted cover of George‘s psych rock epic, “It’s All Too Much,” below. WW

Electricity - A Brief History of Future Sound [2012]
The latest free CD from the September, 2012 edition of MOJO Magazine is a tribute to electronica, entitled Electricity – A Brief History Of Future Sound. I like a few of these bands myself (CAN, Throbbing Gristle) but don’t really listen to this type of music much. It’s why the player hosts what might be the least representative track. Fans of the genre will know if this collection is worthy or not.

THROBBING GRISTLE Hamburger Lady (4:07)
CAN Oh Yeah (7:20)

Smile – Seasides EP [2012]
SMILE - "Perfect holiday", by Karim Rejeb
Smile's new EP, Seasides, is a great soundtrack to your summer. Much like they want to, you can sense a Hawaian feel to their tunes and a beach feeling. Enjoy!
Knocking on Heaven's Door: How Physics and Scientific Thinking Illuminate the Universe and the Modern World [2012]
Lisa Randall is Professor of Physics at Harvard University and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. She is one of today’s most influential theoretical physicists.
The latest developments in physics have the potential to radically revise our understanding of the world: its makeup, its evolution, and the fundamental forces that drive its operation. Knocking on Heaven’s Door is an exhilarating and accessible overview of these developments and an impassioned argument for the significance of science.

Memoryhouse - "Sleep Patterns" [2010]
When they first appeared, Memoryhouse were lumped into chillwave and lo-fi categorizations, but after hearing the rerecorded The Years, it’s clear that neither of these associations fit the band. On the new version of the EP, singer Denise Nouvion’s voice floats along with a soft-but-powerful Mazzy Star-like lilt, with the higher fidelity of the new recordings benefiting her vocal delivery above all else. The soundscapes created by band-mate Evan Abeele also sound more crisp and present, with swaths of gauzy synthesizers and strings blending together beautifully.

Osheaga 2012 - Day 2
A Saturday in August at Osheaga was a clear, scorcher... Here is some of what we saw;
As the day progressed, the crowd was dying for shade of any kind...
And the beat goes on....
Snopp Lion closed the night out in style....
...and feed the fun into the metro, as we rode back onto the island.
