Benjamin Yellowitz • DAD CLUB • 2023

Discussing themes of gender, queerness and complex family relationships, Yellowitz’s latest cut is brave, bold and beautiful. Combining ambient electronica with a sense of acoustic splendour, Yellowitz creates a sound that is undeniably atmospheric and lyrically poignant as a result. Talking about the singles Yellowitz elaborates, “it's a song of juxtaposition between being beautifully accepted, and the strength found in having classic daddy issues... There's plenty of us out there... Are you part of the Bad Dad Club?”.

Additional vocal production by the awesome Rachael Findlen. I feel very privileged to work with all of them and I think we made something really special together.

Podcast #17 • Hunter & Wolfe

Hunter & Wolfe joined me from their Brooklyn homes for a deep dive into their friendship, songwriting process and their art as personal therapy. They pen ever evolving indie pop with a growing synth personality. "Michael Maffei’s smooth-like-butter vocals pair seamlessly with Sundeep Kapur’s wailing electric guitar that almost feels like another vocal at times", as The Wild Honey Pie review so perfectly states. The featured track is their latest single, Last Time which will play at the end of our conversation. Hope you enjoy this intriguing convo with Michael and Sundeep. 🐺

Walk Home Drunk, Comité balnéaire • Split Screen EP • 2023

The Split Screen EP emerged from a mutual encouragement between two Toulouse-based musicians who, when not playing together in the same bands (slowcore duo Docks and indie-punk quartet No Drama), release their music under the monikers Walk Home Drunk and Comité balnéaire. There are therefore many connections running through these two projects, especially since all the material for the EP was recorded in the same apartment using the same equipment and was refined in a spirit of DIY and mutual help. The split will be co-released in the UK and in France through labels Safe Suburban Home (York) and Hidden Bay Records (Toulouse), mirroring both languages sung on the EP.

POSTDATA • Mine The Sea • 2023

Today, POSTDATA — the solo music project of Wintersleep lead singer and songwriter, Paul Murphy — returns with the announcement of a brand new LP, Run Wild, due September 22 via Paper Bag Records. To commemorate the announcement, he has also shared the record's first single, "Mine The Sea," alongside an accompanying video.

On the track, he wrote: "'Mine The Sea' is the idea of digging deeper into yourself to find who you are and where you want to go.. it’s about the search…but also about letting go of habitual ways and allowing yourself to be being open to possibility."

hunter & wolfe • Last Time • 2023

I deserve this., hunter & wolfe's forthcoming 11-track album, was written during sleepless nights about sleepless nights. It is about the self-importance to think you deserve something, and the self-loathing to think what you deserve is nothing good. Vocalist Michael Maffei and guitarist Sundeep Kapur’s message of ennui, lost love, and the paradox of choice in the modern era reflect both a seriousness and the self-awareness to not take themselves too seriously.

Teenage Dads • Speedracer • 2023

Combining gritty yet melodic retro-inspired vocals, tight-knit rhythms and memorable hooks, new single “Speed Racer” captures the essence of Teenage Dad's eclectic fusion of genres and proves again their perfected knack for engaging story-telling. Speaking about the inspiration for the track, the band explain: “In reference to the 1967 anime and 2008 film, “Speedracer” is the person that sends your heart racing at a 1000 miles per hour without a second thought.”
