Podcast #15 • Imogen Moon

Imogen Moon has a voice of experience and wisdom at only 21 years of age! On episode 15 I caught up with Imogen from her Vancouver home to talk not only about her music, but her family linage with music and art that have guided her to a very exciting point in her budding career. On July 21st When They Start Rebelling drops, an homage to her late grandfather Randle who penned and released these tunes back in the 70s. Imogen's EP covers all 6 songs in her own suave, soul-inspired style. Be sure to listen to her latest release "Nicolston Dam" recorded with members of The Dap-Kings and The Roots at the end of the podcast. ☺️

Soukou • bloodline • 2023

Oozing with a soul-tinged splendour, SOUKOU’s powerfully emotive vocals are at the forefront throughout. Subtle synth-infused soundscapes slide in effortlessly underneath R&B-infused sensibilities, creating something truly mesmerising as a result. Talking about the single, SOUKOU explains, “this song is about generative trauma. It's about my grandparent, my parents and me. Its about healing and letting go of the stuff that doesn’t belong to you; about freeing yourself”.

Anna Akana ft Macedo • Wanted Woman • 2021

"Lush, upbeat instrumentation sufficiently masking her pain"
- FLOOD

"Akana’s voice is not sparkly but relaxed, and the tracks are more for jamming than dancing."
- Forbes

"The simple piano chords that begin the track, aided by fluttering synth swells, provide an elemental framework for the singer’s story of self-discovery, open-hearted and soaring as a Broadway ballad"
- The AV Club

Anna Sofia • Either Way • 2020

On the song Anna Sofia said: “I wrote this song as a note to someone I really care for. They have been struggling with body image issues and have always been very self-conscious. I wanted to find a way to really get through to them and let them know how I feel about them -to let them know that I love them no matter what they look like.”

TREMENDUM • SUMMER • 2019

Synead - Lost In The Wild - 2017

"Lost In The Wild" represents a grittier incantation of Synead's music. A stunning cut of fierce, dancefloor-ready R&B, the track is produced by NYC-based artist Richie Quake alongside Synead's executive producer Matt FX, best known for his work as music supervisor of Broad City.

Michael Franti & Spearhead - SOULROCKER - 2016

Right from the opening strains of the '90s-esque reggae-pop tune "Crazy for You," it's clear that although times and musical tastes have changed, the sound and message of Michael Franti hasn't. The San Francisco native and former frontman of Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy is now on the downhill side of 50, and is still espousing love, peace and harmony. The group's ninth studio project SOULROCKER flips the script a little bit, though, by incorporating Diplo-esque type sounds — to uneven, but mostly satisfying results. exclaim
