Leonard Cohen • Moving On • 2020

In celebration of the album, NOWNESS has been collaborating with several filmmakers for their series Thanks for the Dance: Artistic Responses to Leonard Cohen, a collection of video responses to each of the album’s tracks. Friday, they shared the video for “Moving On” by Laure Prouvost and collaborator Ciarán Wood. The video is considered a tribute to one of Cohen’s favorite retreats, the Greek island of Hydra.

I loved your face, I loved your hair
Your T-shirts and your eveningwear
As for the world, the job, the war
I ditched them all to love you more

And now you’re gone, now you’re gone
As if there ever was a you
Who broke the heart and made it new
Who’s moving on, who’s kidding who

I loved your moods, I love the way
They threaten every single day
Your beauty ruled me, though I knew
Twas more hormonal than the view

And now you’re gone, now you’re gone
As if there ever was a you
Queen of lilac, queen of blue
Who’s moving on, who’s kidding who

I loved your face, I loved your hair
Your T-shirts and your eveningwear
As for the world, the job, the war
I ditched them all to love you more

And now you’re gone, now you’re gone
As if there ever was a you
Who held me dying, pulled me through
Who’s moving on, who’s kidding who

Best of 2019 • Leonard Cohen • Thanks for the Dance

After the grand farewell of 2016's You Want It Darker, Cohen's son gathers his father's scraps and unfinished ideas and lovingly fleshes them out with help from collaborators like Beck, The National's Bryce Dessner and Feist.

Jay-Z is not the Dylan of Anything
I am the Dylan of anything
I am the Kanye West of Kanye West
The Kanye West
Of the great bogus shift of bullshit culture
From one boutique to another

Cohen famously approached his death with clarity, and Thanks for the Dance honors his late-career habit of seeming to write elegies for himself.

SPOKEN WORD WITH ELECTRONICS • Issue #1 (A Tribute to David Berman, Sept 2019)

A Toast to David Berman
This is the first three-track set for a new series of mine called “Spoken Word with Electronics” - David had agreed to participate in a track, with a suggestion to record in the Winter when he'd returned from tour. Time ran out (love to him) but here’s a piece about these three tracks and the process: boingboing.net/2019/09/02/my-unf…d-project-wi.html
Audio for "The Moon" was completed this month, post-death, as a way of grieving his work and celebrating him. This audio comes from a 2016 performance perfectly titled "The Secret Conversation" — One of only four public readings David ever performed. The entire recently surfaced recording is an incredible gift: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFPganP_p6Y — There's a fragile sense to the performance here, particularly in the last two sets of spoken lines, that likely would not have been delivered in a recording booth.
Love to David Berman, Thanks for the bright moments.
More pieces from Spoken Word with Electronics in a few months, but I wanted to post this today.
Peace, Ethan. ep.tc/

Eef Barzelay - The Second Coming - 2017

 William Butler Yeats
The Second Coming was written in 1919 in the aftermath
of the first World War.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

    The darkness drops again but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Fossil - The Devil Tree EP - 2013

Bandcamp - Name u r Price!

"Mickey was a silent light, and he was alwayz burnin. He left a trail of true bluez from Galveston to NYC, then back to Sun Valley. I'll see ya again he told me, and that was the last thing he told me. Trouble seems to find men who leave their hearts open. His was blood on blood. Once men lose trust it all just turns to dust. Mickey put that juice in veins to try and stop all the hurt, thinking it might bring him and Angeline closer to God. The ones who are brave enough to love and live seem to get the worst hand. And when I pass Butterfly Bay at night I still think off all of em...Melissa and Mickey and mom and dad. This was before Tommy and Rachel and after Tess and Frankie. Mom still says I'm just like dad, but dad left so I guess should too. I'll be back around one these nights, but for now I'm headin down this road, all the old days and dreams in that rearview dust. It's time leave. So long for now. See ya on the wrong side of Heaven." Luv Alwayzz, Foszzil
