‘Southern Ocean’ is the glorious new single from New York duo The Forms. The first release in a decade from the Queens based band, the track was recorded by Steve Albini, who has recorded both of The Forms’ albums to date: their Pitchfork lauded debut ‘Icarus’ and their critically acclaimed, self-titled sophomore album. The last taste of new music from the group prior to ‘Southern Ocean’ was the 'Derealization' EP, that featured The National’s Matt Berninger on vocals, as well as Shudder To Think’s Craig Wedren. Over the course of these releases, The Forms were invited to share the stage with an incredible collection of artists including St. Vincent, Nick Cave, The National, Dizzee Rascal, The Hold Steady, Kurt Vile, Jose Gonzales, Deerhunter and Bat For Lashes.
He teams up with Haich Ber Na, one of the most promising emerging artists out of the UK, and Shay Lia, Kaytranada’s protégé who’s based in Montreal. Resolutely pop, while naturally incorporating some glitchy French Touch vibes, the track is sonic sunshine and perfectly suited to soundtrack summer barbecues in the months ahead.
Born in Montreal, studying in Brussels, confined to Paris, Peter Pan Pan reflected on some memories during this global break. To escape the loneliness of a too-small studio, he sings on his bed, enlarges the walls with synthesizers, invoking the melancholic pop of Radiohead or Eels, the excitation of Animal Collective or MGMT. A first EP like an invitation to dance, to dream, and carelessness.

US indie heavyweights Hippo Campus return with sparkling new cut ‘Bad Dream Baby’ and announce their ‘Good Dog, Bad Dream’ EP, out August 6th via NYC indie label Grand Jury (Samia, Twin Peaks, Jordana, Native Sun).
“Tip Toe is the first single to be released from our debut album & was written last winter in lockdown. I had blown an eardrum & was trying to record music still but needed to sing as quietly as possible to avoid further damage, which resulted in singing most of the song in a very relaxed falsetto style. This change in vocal delivery altered the album's direction down a much chiller path.
Due to the isolation at the time the band was unable to meet up & write together but I was lucky enough to collaborate with powerhouse vocalist Hollie Joyce from separate houses. I wrote the core structure of the track & had Hollie put her spin on it. I then cut up & moved her vocals around to create a bit of a lo-fi dance vibe.”
Golden Doubt is carried by shimmering guitars and the harmonizing vocals of members Holly Thomas and Bella Quinlan. Elevated by the production of Matthew Redlich (Holy Holy, Husky, Ainslie Wills), the record explores what comes after grief, and how we throw ourselves back into love. As Nicholson explains, the album tries to bottle “the rush of feelings and fears when you give in to falling for someone. It’s also an album in love with other albums, and the other bands around us.”
Already firm favourites on Scottish turf, the band have become accustomed to selling out venues like St Lukes in Glasgow and The Water Rats in London in a heartbeat.
Returning in 2021 with a euphoric new track loaded with a timeless indie quality, frenzied guitar solos and a chorus that’s begging to be sung out loud; expect to hear “Dreams, Schemes & Young Teams” igniting the crowds as they take to the stage at TRNSMT Festival this Summer.
