On writing ‘The Outsider’ Brooke Singer said, “In 2019 I visited LA for the first time to do some co-writing with a few different producers and songwriters ahead of a French for Rabbits tour - it was an exciting, dizzying experience - all the palm trees and heat. One balmy day, I had a session with Marc Orrell and Brooke Johnson and we ended up writing my favourite song on this new record - an introvert’s anthem that finds joy in the act of being alone. The song distils the feeling of being an awkward introvert at a party - staring at your phone on the edges of a crowd”.

The inertia of the album’s title, they say, is one deeply-rooted in the Western condition – in which ‘common sense’ masquerades political impotence, culture is largely dominated by pastiche and nostalgia and life itself is reduced to an endless cycle of work-consume-repeat. Although, for all that ‘Superinertia’ might take aim at a world without motion, the same cannot be said of 10 000 Russos themselves. On the one hand, since their 2013 debut LP and the three that have followed on Fuzz Club since (2015’s self-titled, 2017’s ‘Distress Distress’ and ‘Kompromat’), 10 000 Russos’ music has always been about as kinetic as it gets: a truly unrelenting, motorik sonic force.

Mort Rose is a Montreal based rock band founded in 2016. They rapidly made a name for themselves in the Montreal underground with their critically acclaimed debut “Nés pour aimer”. The result is a timely offering that perfectly reflects the urgency and the tension of our generation.

Much darker and more personal than its predecessor, "Au revoir cowboys" is also full of spontaneity and authenticity. The songs on the album feel deconstructed and unfinished, yet are filled with great melodies, energetic rhythms and meticulous arrangements.

‘Disco Wings’ sees the band justifying the hype of their debut album, which drew comparisons with the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Animal Collective at the time. The new material has been self-produced once again, however, technical wizard and multi-instrumentalist Jamie Richards was stretched for mixing time, building his Neon Egg pedals for the likes of Bon Iver, Kurt Vile & Hot Chip. “Sugar is a song about the tribes and tribulations at the beginning of a new relationship and all that comes with it,” Hannes tells Atwood Magazine. “Living together in a studio apartment, eating too much candy, smoking too much and catching late night Uber’s in Stockholm with my new girlfriend. I wrote it with my friend and producer Marcus White who I always work with. The song felt really dull until Marcus found this banjo loop that fitted perfectly in the chorus. Now it’s not dull anymore. I mean, how can something be dull with a fire banjo loop like that.”

“The verse of Ten is a Number began as a voice note that was half-forgotten, returned to and developed as a pitch for a movie. It was not chosen, but I liked it and so I added a chorus to it. When I wrote the chorus I felt like it perfectly embodied the way life felt at the time, which is a rare thing I think. I had met some new people and felt a kind of sheltered youthful optimism I hadn’t felt for a while,” Field explains.
