The Story of The Violent Femmes

The Grandfathers of Folk-Punk. Rock's dadaist improvisors. Calcified fossils of teen angst. American roots minimalists. The sonic personification of anxiety. Blues cubists. Spokesmen for misfits. These are just a few of the phrases that come to mind upon thinking of the Femmes... The Femmes are an old time singing group in the sixties mold. All three of them sing their hearts out for almost the entire show. Gano’s distinctive whine has influenced everyone from Billy Corgan to Bob Dylan...The Femmes first album has sold millions of copies. Their newest album has sold hundreds of copies... Rolling Stone magazine said Gano's voice "can clear a room faster than a methane explosion... Gordon and Brian played their first show together at Gordon's National Honor Society Program. Gordon told them he would play an innocuous song, but instead the duo performed "Gimme the Car." When a riot erupted Gordon was expelled from the honor society...
