Here We Go Magic – “How Do I Know” [2012]
Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic provide the perfect summer jam about second-guessing, while Thundercat made sure not to skimp on the synth. Lightwaves dropped an awesome remix of ATG Record’s own Queen of Hearts, and Hot Chip stayed true to their signature disco funk/punk sound. Rounding things out, The Walkmen dare you not to tap your foot to the first single from their new album out this summer. ATG
Lower Dens - Brains [2012]
Ahh, “Brains.” The song where Lower Dens took their dreamy twin-guitared smoulder for a trip up the Autobahn and made Nootropics one of my most anticipated LPs of 2012. For the “Brains” video, out today, Jana Hunter commissioned director Tristan Patterson (he of the hailed Dragonslayer doc). Tristan trains the camera on a stoic Jana, using various visual effects to modify the footage in concert with the music. Put another way, the band’s camp says the video is about “appreciating our modern society’s rampant technological advancements while reconciling its ability to encroach to traumatizing effect. The minimalism here is monumental, elements in the music that seem subtle at first soon reveal themselves as colossal developments.” SG

Sigur Ros - Valtari [2012]
"i really can’t remember why we started this record, i no longer know what we were trying to do back then. i do know session after session went pear-shaped, we lost focus and almost gave up...did give up for a while. but then something happened and form started to emerge, and now i can honestly say that it’s the only sigur rós record i have listened to for pleasure in my own house after we’ve finished it." - georg

Kishi Bashi - 151a [2012]
I’ve been loving Kishi Bashi’s new album 151a. He’s one of the most skilled composers/songwriters I’ve seen pop up recently. He’s also a creative and fun guy, as demonstrated by this new video for “Bright Whites.”

Fusion Farm's BBQ - Beer Can Chicken [2012]
The Fusion Farm's BBQ trials continue. This week's instalment is a very simple yet wonderfully succulent smoked chicken a la beer can.
It begins with a bird... Grain feed/Free range are my preference.
A dry rub - go crazy and create your very own.
Pound as much rub on that bird as you like - I put a shallot in the cavity as well.
The perfect size can; have a few swigs before you load the bird.
Load it up and fire up the BBQ - it needs a good 3 hours at around 300 degrees. I used maple wood today and it was great flavour.
Delicious beer can smoked chicken...

Doveman - The Best Thing [2009]
Doveman performance at The Elevated Hole
And where did you go now?
And where have you been all day long?
As I sit here waiting
And wonder if you’re gone
And if it’s over
I wonder what’s it over for
And are we so small that we can’t handle more?
And when it’s over
And when you lay your hammer down
If you can love me you’ll be the very best thing I’ve found.
Give me a reason
Just a word will do
Cause it’s not so hard to keep me tied to you
And in the end
To want none or want it all
It’s beautiful to try but it was our downfall
And when it’s over
And when you lay your hammer down
If you can love me you’ll be the very best thing I’ve found
And when we’re older
And when you lay your burdens down
If I can find you you’ll be the very best thing I’ve found
The best thing I’ve found
The best thing

Spiritualized - Hey Jane [2012]
From the new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light
Jason Pierce has spent the past three decades building a body of work that runs the gamut of druggy psychedelia, moving from the spaced-out, minimalist drones of the Spacemen 3 in the Eighties to the maximalist gospel euphoria of Spiritualized, his main band since the early Nineties. Spiritualized will release Sweet Heart Sweet Light, their seventh album, on April 17th. The record finds Pierce working on the familiar grand scale of past Spiritualized discs while emphasizing simpler, bolder melodies.

The Story of Cat Power [2012]
Chan Marshall stops time. She sits at a piano or lays her guitar across her lap, and whether it’s a noisy club overflowing with drunks or a coffee house full of laptoppers, Chan Marshall draws all the attention in the room and makes the world stop spinning. As Cat Power, Marshall’s music seems to rise from nowhere, envelop the room, then vanish; listeners know they’ve been hit by something but they’re not sure what... Matador
The Greatest
Following the release of 1995's Dear Sir and 1996's Myra Lee -- both recorded on the same day -- Cat Power signed to Matador for 1996's What Would the Community Think?, which won acclaim for Marshall's unsettling, emotional songs and cathartic vocals.
The superb Moon Pix followed two years later, and in the spring of 2000 Cat Power resurfaced with The Covers Record. Released in 2003, You Are Free featured a lusher, more polished sound as well as cameos by Dave Grohl and Eddie Vedder; 2006's The Greatest was recorded in Memphis, TN, with legendary soul players including guitarist/songwriter Mabon "Teenie" Hodges, bassist Leroy "Flick" Hodges, and drummer Steve Potts. Another set of covers, Jukebox, was released two years later.
