My 2015 - Ostrea Lake - Rippling Waters Ep

A dynamic three piece indie folk band from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ostrea Lake's music gently rises and swells, sometimes rippling, often calm. Centering strongly around the rich vocal abilities of lead singer and baritone ukulele player Elias Abi Daoud, Ostrea Lake builds powerful and enchanting songs. Rippling Waters EP brings forward their most melodically driven and carefully crafted music to date.

Don Lovely - Three Songs for Hunky Bunker - 2015

Great release from our neighbours to the east.
What I always wished Bruce Springsteen sounded like - raw, emotional caked in garage rock!

Shadow Folk - Mystery Park - 2015

Like a warm cozy psychedelic blanket with a few indie tattered and torn spots, but one you won't give up for the world.
Excellent sounds out of Halifax as always…

Poncho Records Compilation Vol. 1 by Poncho Records - 2014

My Canadian cousins over at Poncho Records have just released their first ever compilation!
A truly wonderful selection of Halifax's most ambitious psych rock bands, plus a few "others"... get it on cassette and amaze your friends of your retro nature.

Poncho Records - 2014

No Bodies - s/t - 2014

No Bodies play shoegaze garage rock. Sounds to me like the Jam or the Byrds on a serious smoked up garage in Halifax, Canada.

Gnarwhalz - Goggy Gentlemen - 2014

Listening to Gnarwhalz brings me back to my days of checking out bands in tiny little showbars in Montreal, where you would find many lo-fi bands pounding away at it in an attempt to entertain the masses. The harmonies are energetic, the musicality sweet - it will have you thinking, "I've heard this before"... but really you haven't!

No Bodies - 2014

This is the first release by the band No Bodies, a garage-psych outfit also out of Halifax; a tremendous release.

Halifax Goes Psychedelic

Halifax Canada is producing some pretty nice psychedelic music as of late. These three artists have much to prove in this genre, but are doing a solid job so far. Offering expansive, gritty, guitar driven mindtrips to the listeners form coast to coast. Shadow Folk is my favorite of the batch, were they walk the fine line of psych-space rock with much grace. All of this great music is offered for a minimum investment over at bandcamp.

The Everywheres - Slow Friends - 2013

Really like this breezy indie pop from my new best indie music scene Halifax Canada - sharp electric strings seduced by sugary vocals - Recommended Listen for sure...

Beach Glass - Sea Glasses - 2013

bandcamp - name your price :-)

Good old Canadian boys from the far east putting some pretty nice indie pop together on Sea Glasses. Reminds me of Silver Scooter - simple, to the point music with simmering guitars, straight beats and nerdy vocals. Very nice release.
