Gem Club - I Heard the Party [2012]

with a mouth full of fresh flowers
you woke up the neighbors
no one could have told you
your body would fail you
silent as the star
it broke you like a song
i heard the party's here
have i only come to
watch through your window
float up through the ceiling
softly escaping
drag you to the ground
you stood there alone

A live version of Twins filmed in NY for Dig for Fire and the Neighborhood.

The Final School Supper

The kids finished the 2011-2012 school year and wanted to feast with their little hands; so we made some killer wings, sweet potatoes chips and crudités with a wonderful cilantro dip.
It didn't take long for them to crash hard... What a year!

Sammy - Tales of Great Neck Glory [1996]

Sammy was formed in the early 90s by Jesse Hartman and Luke Wood, a former member of Girls Against Boys who had contributed guitar to their Tropic of Scorpiorelease in 1989. The band, who frequently received comparisons to Pavement, was initially signed to Smells like Records, the label owned by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley.  Later the band signed to DGC/Geffen records, where Luke Wood was working at the time. Geffen released the band's third and final full-length, Tales of Great Neck Glory, in 1996.

I wish that I knew ya,
That you weren't made up
Hear the fog in your voice
See the way that you strut
Down Neptune Ave.
Show me around, tell me a story
'cause I'm a history hound

Yeah, I wish that I knew ya
Not a sketch in my book
See the lines on your face
Your hard boiled look
Down Neptune Ave.
Yeah, show me around
Tell me a story
'cause I'm a history hound

Become more than a character on the page
Description and dialogue that I saved
oh-ho

I wish you were real
I wish you could talk
I wish you could feel
I wish you could walk me
down Neptune Ave.
Show me the town
Tell every story to this history hound

Whatever happened to you on this beach?
Whatever happened to you in that bar?
Whatever happened to you on this street?
Whatever happened to your old guitar?
Whatever happened to you on this ride?
Whatever happened to you in that club?
How did life ever take such a slide?
Where you learned to be someone no good?

How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
I'd say how do, it's nice to meet you.

How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, yeah it's nice to meet you.

How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, yeah it's nice to meet you.

American Analog Set - The Fun of Watching Fireworks [1996]

What happens when you are a sensitive guy making music in Austin, Texas, in the mid 90s? You either join a band called Trail of Dead and take out your frustrations by smashing your gear on stage every time you play, or you recruit a bunch of equally sensitive people and make the most shimmery music possible. The American Analog Set made a handful of albums (all of which are gorgeous and sound kind of the same), but this is a sentimental favorite. The record opens with the sounds of exploding fireworks, a fun sound that this band manages to make melancholy. This is good music to play while journaling or drifting in and out of consciousness.

Colin Howson - Objecting to God [2012]

The growth of science and a correspondingly scientific way of looking at evidence have for the last three centuries slowly been gaining ground over religious explanations of the cosmos and mankind's place in it. However, not only is secularism now under renewed attack from religious fundamentalism, but it has also been widely claimed that the scientific evidence itself points strongly to a universe deliberately fine-tuned for life to evolve in it. In addition, certain aspects of human life, like consciousness and the ability to recognise the existence of universal moral standards, seem completely resistant to evolutionary explanation.

In this book Colin Howson analyses in detail the evidence which is claimed to support belief in God's existence and argues that the claim is not well-founded. Moreover, there is very compelling evidence that an all-powerful, all-knowing God not only does not exist but cannot exist, a conclusion both surprising and provocative.

Rogue Wave - "Eyes" video

Missed the last train home
Birds pass by to tell me that I'm not alone
Well, I'm pushing myself to finish this part
I can handle a lot
But one thing I'm missing is in your eyes

In your eyes...

Have you seen this film?
It reminds me of walking through the avenues
Washing my hands of attachments, yeah
I can land on the ground
But one thing I'm missing is in your eyes
'Cause I find love

In your eyes...

Delorentos - Did We Ever Really Try? [2012]

The band drifted together in the usual fashion… inspired by boredom, creative energy, and a passion for music – obvious reference points are Pixies, The Cure, The Clash and Arcade Fire; more oblique influences slide in from most genres of music and virtually every decade from the 50s onwards. Over a period of time that saw others attempt to tie down a description of their sound, they holed up in the wilds of Portrane, Co Dublin and concentrated on writing songs, pure and simple. They had no interest in the frills and fripperies or the empty bombast that occupy other bands; for them it has always been about 4 people communing to harness honest emotion, fashion melodic hooks, and roll out infectious rhythms.

Ronnie Slogun - Baby Blue Eyes [2012]

“Right now, I am searching for a label that might be interested in my project, sending out a copies of my first album as a demo, and currently planning a few club performances, as well as a live session in the studio.”... his indie folk, dream pop sound is influenced by artists like Husker Du, Slowdive, Evan Dando, Belly and John Frusciante.

Baby, she's got blue eyes
Baby, she's got blue eyes
Blue as the skies before sunrise
Blue as a heart without light

Baby, she's got blue eyes
Baby, she's got blue eyes
Blue as the deepest sea
Blue as your mind, blue as my mind

Baby, now she's gone away
Baby, now she's gone away
Far away, to the land of dreams
Far away, to the land of ghosts...

Baby, she had blue eyes
Baby, she had blue, blue eyes
In the hallways, I always hear her voice
In the hallways, I still hear her voice

Langhorne Slim & The Law - The Way We Move [2012]

There is nothing like the challenges and camaraderie of the road to inspire a songwriter who thrives upon the emotional energy and exhilaration only travel can deliver. Some singers are devoted to the pursuit of perpetual motion, and Langhorne Slim releases his wild soul in ways that come out of the discipline of live performance.

On The Way We Move, the live feel of the sessions, which found Langhorne singing along with the band on every track. “Singing with the band that way, it’s almost like I was performing on stage,” he says. Cutting everything live to tape gave the band exactly what they’d been looking for: a super-charged evocation of their raucous, friendly stage performances.

Neutral Bling Hotel - In My G4 Over Da Sea - 2012

 Name your price to download...

Simply Amazing, if you are a fan of the original, which shouldn't be too hard, you'll love the remixes by Psycosis

There are mash-ups that are meh, mash-ups that are fun, and then there are mash-ups that make you forget that this mash-up business is kind of getting tired and your head explodes in a cloud of joyous glitter. Neutral Bling Hotel’s In My G4 Over Da Sea, created by videogame programmer Psycosis, is pure awesome, pairing hip-hop classics with arguably the greatest Elephant Six album produced,Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. Now Jeff Mangum mingles with the likes of M.O.P., Dr. Dre, and Kanye West. Because in the Venn Diagram of life, there should always be a point at which Mangum and Jay-Z overlap. Listen below, have your mind blown, and then headhere to download for a “name your own price” deal. avclub

Scarlet Letter - Atheist Documentary Trailer

This is the first trailer of an upcoming documentary which seems to focus on the thoughts of atheists and misconseptions about atheism. I'm looking forward to see it.

La Mangeoire Promo [2012]

Fort Atlantic – Fort Atlantic (2012)

It started as a gimmick. Rock musician Jon Black was looking for a creative way to get people -- mostly press -- to listen to his new album. After reading a story about a musician who sent out his album inside floppy disk covers, he thought he'd try packaging his new release on Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges. wired

Thad Kopec - The Ghost and The Thief [2012]

For a 20-year-old self-taught musician who only really started playing and recording a year ago, Kopec is off to an impressive start with his thoughtful, endearing and uplifting songs; he’s clearly an extremely talented artist, and the more we listen to his fairly large catalog of lo-fi tracks, the more convinced we are that he deserves to get more notice, and suspect that will happen when more people get to hear his music.
