Sammy - Tales of Great Neck Glory [1996]

Sammy was formed in the early 90s by Jesse Hartman and Luke Wood, a former member of Girls Against Boys who had contributed guitar to their Tropic of Scorpiorelease in 1989. The band, who frequently received comparisons to Pavement, was initially signed to Smells like Records, the label owned by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley.  Later the band signed to DGC/Geffen records, where Luke Wood was working at the time. Geffen released the band's third and final full-length, Tales of Great Neck Glory, in 1996.

I wish that I knew ya,
That you weren't made up
Hear the fog in your voice
See the way that you strut
Down Neptune Ave.
Show me around, tell me a story
'cause I'm a history hound

Yeah, I wish that I knew ya
Not a sketch in my book
See the lines on your face
Your hard boiled look
Down Neptune Ave.
Yeah, show me around
Tell me a story
'cause I'm a history hound

Become more than a character on the page
Description and dialogue that I saved
oh-ho

I wish you were real
I wish you could talk
I wish you could feel
I wish you could walk me
down Neptune Ave.
Show me the town
Tell every story to this history hound

Whatever happened to you on this beach?
Whatever happened to you in that bar?
Whatever happened to you on this street?
Whatever happened to your old guitar?
Whatever happened to you on this ride?
Whatever happened to you in that club?
How did life ever take such a slide?
Where you learned to be someone no good?

How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
I'd say how do, it's nice to meet you.

How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, yeah it's nice to meet you.

How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, how do you do?
How do, yeah it's nice to meet you.
