BITW • 'GADDO GLAW’ • 2026

https://bitwbitwbitw.bandcamp.com

Bitw is the solo project of Welsh musician Gruff ab Arwel. A committed DIY artist, he has built a career of sorts on his own terms, creating lo-fi art pop (not his description) that takes itself seriously without taking himself too seriously. Now in his mid-thirties, Gruff has made the seamless transition from failing musician to failed musician, and is finally enjoying the freedom that comes with having nothing left to prove.

His latest album, Gaddo Glaw, is his most homemade and cost-effective work yet; a record made almost entirely alone with a borrowed Portastudio and a steady supply of bad news. The songs find Gruff generally giving up on hope and finding peace instead through accepting our impending doom. His first entirely Welsh-language release, Gaddo Glaw confronts geopolitical conflict, the climate crisis and the general feeling that things are falling apart, all delivered in easy-to-digest pop song form. Bleak in subject matter yet full of warmth, the album stops short of finding a beacon of hope, but nevertheless holds on for dear life to love as one of the best things full stop.

Lowertown • Worst Friend • 2026

“a band on the cusp of greatness.” - NME

“One cannot help but get goosebumps” - The Line Of Best Fit

“Luscious lo-fi indie bops” - DIY

“we are predicting big things for the pair” -The Forty-Five

“The latest in a generation of artists determined not to be defined by genre”

- Notion

The songwriting partnership of Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg, the last few years saw the prolific pair teetering on the brink. From constant touring and a separation from their label to creative frustrations and an unhealthy attachment to one another, their artistic partnership and, more importantly, their friendship were on shaky ground—especially since these experiences were coloured by the disorienting intensity of their late teens and early 20s. It became clear that the two had to revisit their roots.

Phantom Handshakes • No Better Plan • 2021

Phantom Handshakes is a lo-fi, dream pop collaboration between Federica Tassano and Matt Sklar.

Tyler Burkhart • Only Yesterday • 2021

Only yesterday
I was just a kid
Never thought I’d grow at all
but then one day I did

Who can help but turn
into someone else?
I don’t wanna spend my life
tryin to figure out myself

Who would wanna be
a celebrity?
people follow you around
but there’s nothing much to see

See your name in lights
in flourescent bulbs
I don't wanna get so high
that I’d be afraid to fall

Called you up to say
I had that dream again
can’t remember how it starts
but this is how it ends

Best of 2020 • Squill • Moon Sessions

Lo-fi infused band adds a distant fragile heart to all of its' tunes. A dark, intimate record that grew from the solitude of the pandemic.

The Goin' Nowheres • Curse Rotted Record • 2020

“The privileged classes can afford psychoanalysis and whiskey. Whereas all we get is sermons and sour wine. This is manifestly unfair. I protest, silently.”

Papur Wal • Meddwl am Hi • 2020

“Meddwl am Hi” is simply overflowing with power pop, distorted charm, tight yet lose, throwaway yet heartfelt. Papur Wal with tongue in cheek glee describe the song as their ‘attempt at writing a hit single’. With touches of Gorky's Zygotic Mynci subversive pop, 80/90s American alternative fuzz slacker kings Pavement and Dinosaur Jr and a sugared cherry of 70s west coast sunshine placed on top ‘Meddwl am Hi’ is irresistible. Lick your lips, this is a song to be savoured.....a taste of what other musical delights Papur Wal have in store for us this year...a year that will be known as theirs.

NO MUSEUMS • An Engine Submerged • 2019

A homemade hybrid of creaking pop and basement rock, using an array of textural devices and hummed noise. Echo boxes, delay pedals, soft distortion dynamics and guitars with buzzing strings. There is drift and there is direction. Enjoys the sounds of Little Wings, Guided By Voices, Velvet Underground, Wedding Present, Television Personalities.

gorgeous bully - best of - 2010 - 2016

a simple introduction to gorgeous bully - 14 songs from the last 6 years.

Gorgeous Bully — the Manchester-based bedroom pop project fronted by Thomas Crang — has the sort of Bandcamp back catalog that’s both intimidatingly extensive and satisfyingly rich, built up over six years of steady releases. SG

Sweet Benfica - Earthquake Lights - 2014

Sweet Benfica are two brothers from the peripheral of the Welsh Mountains. As a means to get songs recorded as quickly as possible using the Brain, Tape, Phone, Memory, the Computer. Tunes are captured as they float past in the atmosphere, melodies that have been in slumber for thousands of years, sounds from a dormant future, songs that were drawn on cave walls, are kidnapped then traced by their broken antennas.

Salad Boys - Salad Boys - 2013

Thanks to the boyz over at spacerockmountain for this find... they have a knack for finding lofi indie bands that make me all gooey on the inside, and the Salade Boys are no exception. Outstanding slacker rhythms, with a rich "I could careless" attitude; Wow!
