Jon Stewart Basks In The Glory Of Clint Eastwood’s ‘Awesome’ Speech [2012]

Jon Stewart opened The Daily Show‘s final night in Tampa by basking in the “awesome” and “hilarious” speech Clint Eastwood gave at the Republican National Convention, which consisted of the Oscar-winning actor yelling at a chair for ten minutes. But while Stewart was awe-struck over Eastwood’s speech, he was not so kind to Mitt Romney‘s acceptance speech, bashing it as being a whitewash of American history.

A Brief History of Pretty Much Everything

Great Stop-Motion... of pretty much everything!

The Darwin Economy: Liberty, Competition, and the Common Good [2012]

"Competition often serves the parts better than the whole. This is true for both species evolution and human society. Only a fool would count on the invisible hand. In his usual clearheaded and lively style, Robert Frank explains how Charles Darwin thought more deeply about these issues than most contemporary economists."

Houndmouth - Penitentiary [2012]

Houndmouth are making good on their mountains of potential with their new EP (out now) and this new video. To be fair, half the credit goes to WLFY‘s Zach Hart who directed this video. I’m really excited to see how the band’s next few months turn out. Hopefully when they finish theirupcoming tour, they’ll have netted a couple hundred new fans.

Euros Childs - Summer Special [2012]

“I like the challenge of making music good enough that people will be willing to pay for it voluntarily”, says Euros. “And as far as the physical copies are concerned, apart from a few sold in shops in Wales, every one has been delivered by post or hand. There’s something very gratifying about that. You’d probably get the same kick if you grew and sold your own vegetables’.

Neil Halstead on the Relix Roof [2009]

New Album

Silver Scooter Split EPs & 7 inch [1996-2000]

Silver Scooter began as a deceptively simple pop trio with the uncanny ability to hit as many emotional chords as musical ones. With their third full-length, The Blue Law, the band evolved into a deceptively sophisticated pop quartet that now hits those chords with an articulate precision, using the studio to silken, not slicken, a tasteful sound that was already tight, controlled and in many ways, perfect. However, beneath the studied polish of their new record breathes a beast.

Exitmusic - Passage [2012]

"You will be engulfed, so dress accordingly. It's a tsunami of pop noise..." - THE GUARDIAN

“Building up a fervent following to the point where each of their CMJ shows is packed with a buzzy concoction of hardcore fans, hipsters and muso-freaks... Gloriously luscious.” - NME

"Rare and beautiful." - NYLON

"The freakishly talented duo of Aleksa Palladino & Devon Church always makes me think of two sweet kids strolling hand-in-hand into Armageddon. It feels ennobling, as reverb roars and Palladino warbles, “We are sparks of light, but we hide it” to suddenly bashful, suddenly human, us." _LOS ANGELES CITYBEAT

Yellow Submarine Resurfaces (2012)

The latest free CD issue from the July, 2012 edition of MOJO Magazine is a tribute to the re-release of the Yellow Submarine DVD and song soundtrack. There are some interesting covers here, especially some of George Harrison’s lost wonders, “It’s All Too Much,” “Only A Northern Song” and “Love You To.” I like Jim White’s “All Together Now,” but only because I already liked his bizarre style. The Cornshed Sisters, who recorded a vocally robust Beach Boys bonus cover for last month’s MOJO, tackle “Nowhere Man” here. Check out the twisted cover of George‘s psych rock epic, “It’s All Too Much,” below. WW
