I wanted to write a song that was about watching TV, that was told through TV and movie plots that ultimately reveal things about who the character was. The character does nothing in the story, he’s a kind of cipher. The content of the song is told through stupid TV and movie plots, and ultimately, this storytelling reveals the kind of person this character is.
