TBTCI ends here and now, and our last adventure simply doesn´t need presentations, after all Disintegration is a masterpiece in block letters. For many, The Cure´s the best record, but it doesn´t matter, what really matters is that we all love it unconditionally, and that is enough.

Best of 2018 - Say Sue Me - it's just a short walk!
One of my favourite cover EPs of 2018 - so simple so sweet so listen to it!
Fittingly for a band that often sounds as if they’re piecing together various corners of pop history, the song selections and aesthetic of the EP span decades. In a press release, frontwoman Sumi Choi mentions that they at first considered covers by their favorites, Yo La Tengo and Pavement. Instead, they went back to some of the older, legendary bands and decided to try to render those songs through the lens of indie bands Say Sue Me grew up on. That means the ’60s pop charge of the Velvet Underground’s “Beginning To See The Light” gets ruptured with angular ’90s breakdowns, or that they might tweak the Beach Boys’ “Do You Wanna Dance” and the Ramones’ “Rockaway Beach” with a shimmery modern haze.

Reverse Play: C86 re(dis)covered - 2018
The idea for this one was be a “C86” theme! Not strictly C86 as to what was on the tapes, but more as a genre in (twee)music. Think bands like the Wake, BMX Bandits, Brighter, Heavenly, McCarthy etc.
The bands that were involved are indie's "hidden gems" and each of them brilliant in their own way, some more recoginised than others, but part of an extensive indie music network online that shares a devotion for music like no other….

Indie Covers Twenty
I'm at twenty already... Either I am getting older real fast or I lost my marbles years ago. Here is the 20th instalment of my indie covers posts; I probably have another 20 or so before I start lacking covers from some of our most endearing indie artists.

North Star by Graveface Records & Curiosities - Weary Engine Blues - 2013
Tribute to Jason Molina
From William Schaff:
"Back in January of this year, I received a message from a friend of Jason's, Tara Samaha. Like so many of us were, she was concerned. She was concerned for his safety, mental and physical health after receiving an alarming email. She felt he needed a map to help him through these troubled times and then asked that I make him one. I did. Sadly we were never able to land a concrete address for Jason, where we knew he would get the map. I know that he had lost things important to him over the past few years, for various reasons, so I wanted to be sure this got into his hands, and no one else. That said -- sadly -- the map was never delivered to him" graveface

Eddi Front - 2012
The violin that her conductor father gave her when she was five was too shrill ("I thought it sounded like a whiny cat… especially if you kind of suck"); she wanted a viola or cello instead. Her favorite music as a teenager followed a similar pattern: the gloom of the first few Cat Power records, the cassette hiss and dark humor of Liz Phair's self-recorded Girlysound tapes. These were the albums that inspired her to create her own brooding, decidedly unpolished bedroom recordings. "I was sending around demos which I thought were a finished product," she laughs. "Some of my friends were like, 'Maybe you should try to record these in a studio.'" pitch

My 2012: Angus Stone - Broken Brights
Genre: Indie folk pop
Broken Brights generally feels laid-back even in its rockier electric moments. Its easy-on-the-ear rhythms call up Dire Straits, while Stone’s sporadic distorted guitar solos evoke Neil Young in his Crazy Horse era, especially on songs like “Bird On A Buffalo” and “Only A Woman”. It’s hard not to admire his skill as Stone adds brightness and color to even his downbeat tales. On “The Blue Door”, tremolo guitar and flute mirror the cautionary lyrics with Western ambience, and he sprinkles tiny sound effects over the guitar-woven space oddity “Apprentice Of The Rocket Man”.
Touches like these lift Broken Brights above the mundane, as Stone demonstrates production skills worthy of an addition to his resume. Superficially, this album could be filed as “easy listening”; and to some extent, it is. But it redeems itself by demanding careful listening: There’s always something unexpected around the corner.
