Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - S.O.B. EP - 2015

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will release their self-titled debut on Stax Records August 21. It’s fitting that the album will bear the iconic logo of the legendary Memphis label with its vintage soul and R&B DNA.

Those who heralded Rateliff’s 2010 solo folk effort, In Memory Loss, are in for an initial shock. Delve beneath the surface of this new album to find Rateliff exposing harsh truths about the life he’s lived, the people he’s hurt and the despair he’s struggled with. Additional layers of expressiveness provided by The Night Sweats bring a new soulful sound and intensity to these songs. Of the record, Rateliff explains, “I try to be lighthearted because, although the songs are heavy, I want it to be a release for people. I mean things are hard. But I can remember dancing around to some song that was breakin’ my heart, dancin’ with tears in my eyes. I love that feeling, and I wanna share it with people, and hopefully they’ll feel it too.”

Rateliff & The Night Sweats already had the arrangements of the new songs down cold, having work-shopped them on the road. When it came time to record, Rateliff chose producer Richard Swift, known primarily for his work with The Shins, Foxygen and as touring musician for The Black Keys. Swift, whose specialty is capturing the intensity of live performances, honed the sound, allowing the studio itself to serve as an integral sonic component.

The Red Headed Indian - Honey - 2014

A force of Folk woven with Soul, The Red Headed Indian is debuting her 6 track EP, “Honey”. Influenced heavily by Ray LaMontagne and Joy Williams of The Civil Wars, her simple lyrics sung with soulful heat introduce a style rarely heard from female artists. “Honey” sings of heartbreak and hopefulness. A soundtrack for those wandering back home.

Heath McNease - Fort Wayne (Songs Inspired by the Film) - 2014

After being named Derek Webb's choice for the best album on Noisetrade in 2013 with "The Weight of Glory: Second Edition", Heath McNease is exploring all facets of his artistry with the release of his brand new album and the debut of his new, free independent film. "Fort Wayne" is 17 tracks of folk/pop packed with raw lyricism, lush instrumentation, and atmospheric percussion that gives it a sound that falls somewhere between Bon Iver and Frank Ocean. The record serves as the soundtrack and backbone to his 43 minute film of the same name. McNease (who writes, directs, and produces the film) plays the protagonist, a down and out singer/songwriter stuck in the frozen midwestern town of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The album is premiering on Heath's youtube page, and can be viewed here as well. "Its my desire to become a fully functioning, self contained unit artistically. Being able to make my own film and to let my album serve as the soundtrack to it has been a dream come true," said McNease.

An Introduction To Twin Forks - 2014

“Whatever makes the audience stomp their feet and sing at the top of their lungs, that’s what I want to be doing,” says singer/guitarist Chris Carrabba of TWIN FORKS. Pulling together friends from other bands, and old friend Jonathan Clark on bass, Carrabba harnesses the acoustic spirit of his work with Dashboard Confessional and channels it through the rootsy classic folk of his childhood. These songs are anthemic enough for massive singsongs and personal and intimate enough for listening on an iPod. Twin Forks' self-titled debut album is available now worldwide. This 4-song sampler includes the lead single "Back To You," fan-favourite "Kiss Me Darling," never-released b-side "Good and Slow," and a sickly sweet cover of Taylor Swift's massive hit "Mean."
