πŸŽ™️ ifitbeyourwill Ep. 21 • Otracami

Otracami aka Camila Ortiz, a visionary musician pushing sonic boundaries, seamlessly blends genres to craft a unique auditory experience. Joining me from her home in Brooklyn NY we chatted about her mesmerizing fusion of electronic beats and ethereal melodies, inviting listeners into a world where innovation meets emotion. Checkout her latest record, "touching the stove coil" out now! A true maestro, Otracami is reshaping the musical landscape. Enjoy πŸŽ™️

Opener ‘in the car’ offers a picture of an overbearing homelife (the only time I could ever really be alone / was after dropping everybody off at home / waiting for the stop sign to turn green / blinking through the high beams”) set to a dappled rhythm, while ‘Stove Coil’ punctuates a sedate, listless lethargy with the sharp violence hinted at in the album’s title. “Spiral glowing red / on the razor’s edge,” Ortiz sings, “a sting and a sweetness / will I feel it.” A strange mixture of pain and pleasure which could represent the entire action of the record. Approaching something which will almost certainly hurt, yet glows alluringly all the same. VSF

Emerald Park • We Wasted All Our Memories • 2023

"We Wasted All Our Memories" is the second joint single by Emerald Park, Danish Daycare and The Lonely Sasquatch. The tempo is faster this time, and the song seems almost danceable. Stars or Arcade Fire could be a reference. However, the emotional mood follows the previous song with its Nordic melancholy, which is characterized by a nostalgic hopelessness.

Hank Tree • Sweet Saltpeter • 2023

‘Sweet Saltpeter’ is about feeling dispensable in, yet trapped by, work life, however the music contains a certain warmth, as if being licked by a campfire, while reflecting on the hardships portrayed through the lyrics, which relate to the difficult work and climatic conditions faced by workers in the saltpeter towns of northern Chile… Hank Tree is a Glasgow based project led by Fergus MacDonald (ex- State Broadcasters), also comprising Roy Shearer (Ultras, Inspector Tapehead) and Bart Owl (Eagleowl, Broken Chanter). Hank Tree's first EP was released by Chilean label Uva Robot followed up by their aforementioned debut LP.

BMX Bandits • Setting Sun • 2023

“Britain’s ultimate cult group”, The Guardian

Setting Sun" is the first single from BMX Bandits' forthcoming album "Dreamers on The Run". "Dreamers on The Run" will be BMX Bandits twelfth studio album. Chief Bandit, Duglas Stewart started conceptualising and writing material for "Dreamers on The Run" in 2014. It was planned to be the group's most ambitious album project so far. The project was abandoned in 2015 due to Duglas going through a period of mental and physical health worries. The album will bring together material originally written in 2014 with new material created by Duglas and his current main collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Andrew Pattie. Setting Sun is a song about the unifying everyday struggles of living day to day. Musically it is classic Bandits uplifting pop but with a dark underbelly.

Devendra Banhart • Pay The Toll (Adam Green Cover) • 2023

Aloysius Bell • That Is Me • 2023

This song is about one other thing: rest. I'm trying to get better at it, taking breaks and naps. It features me coming home and getting up the stairs, undressing, and getting into bed.

πŸŽ™️ ifitbeyourwill Ep. 19 • Sarah Mary Chadwick

deary • Fairground • 2023

One listen to ‘Fairground’ and I was obsessed; I met them and signed them within a couple of weeks and a few months later ‘Fairground’ became their debut single. Initially released in January, it was remixed by Saint Etienne and – when it finally appeared in physical form – went straight to Number One in the Official Charts’ vinyl singles chart.

scarlet lastrapes • shady little lady • 2023

"Shady Little Lady" is a fresh slice of indie-pop, from a young voice both bright and assured.

Speaking of the track, Lastrapes said, "Shady Little Lady is my own compulsion personified. I imagine she crawled through my ear one day, when I was just twelve years old. I believe neurodivergence to be sorely underrepresented in pop music, so, I tried to craft the song I wish I’d had when I was a kid, and first met Shady."

Sarah Mary Chadwick • Someone Else’s Baby • 2023

Cause I'm just a one time wonder
A fickle lover
On close examination made of glass
Winter or summer
Clear skies or thunder
I'm not really here I'm in the past
I'm just a star that never shined
A mountain no one wants to climb
I don't know how to live under the light
But I'm thankful that I've had
The chance to touch the souls I have
I'll take that any day in lieu of life...

Messages to God is the eighth solo studio record from Sarah Mary Chadwick. Messages to God is perhaps a more universal record in terms of its content than 2021’s Me and Ennui Are Friends, Baby, yet it is still unquestionably intimate. Like all of Chadwick’s music, the album is centered around her completely singular approach to songwriting and storytelling, delivering one of Chadwick’s most dynamic records to date.

πŸŽ™️ ifitbeyourwill Ep. 18 • Jesse Kivel

Hot off the release of his latest record, Life and Death at Party Rock, Jess Kivel is ready to welcome the world into his. As a youngest Jesse rocked it with Princeton, synthed it with Kisses and now with his latest eases the listener into his string arrangements and pastoral tempo. We have a nice chat about Jesse’s musical timeline throughout the ages and how he approached his new self-title music. Enjoy the lead track “I sat on a Ridge” at the end of the podcast. πŸŽ™️

Ben Kweller • Her Father and Her (Adam Green Cover) • 2023

Ben Kweller's rendition of this early Adam Green classic goes all out in its production, transforming a lo-fi indie folk ballad into full on power pop! And yet with his unmistakably tender vocal chops, Kweller conveys the nuance and feeling of the original track. The two have been close friends lo these many years, and so we believe that Kweller has some hidden insight into lines like Pardon me anyone, where is the nearest shore? we're all in this together and the police are at the door. Someone do my laundry or smash me through the floor to that tropical vacation buried underneath the store . Truthfully, we hear in this version of "Her Father and Her" a pitch perfect homage, a decades long friendship, and the respect of one songwriter to another.

Fenne Lily • Hollywood and Fear • 2023

Based on the idea of how love and relationships are portrayed in movies versus what they are in actuality, Fenne wrote the song after an argument with a person she loved, an argument that boiled down to whether loving each other was enough to keep them together. blast

Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Cedric Noel is a pop powerhouse! With a massive catalogue, countless collaborations and a unique pop sensibility supporting him, Cedric is a catalyst in the MontrΓ©al music scene. Joining me from his new pad in MontrΓ©al, Cedric shared wonderful stories from his very beginnings as a musician, and stories of collaborations with other iconic QuΓ©bec musical figures such as Ada Lea, Michael Feuerstack and Alexia Avina. Really great chat! Be sure to listen to the track at the end of the cast, yet another collaboration, this time with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Sean Hellfritsch (aka Cool Maritime), a stunning electronic exploratory performance. Enjoy πŸŽ™️

Sarah Mary Chadwick • If I Have It In Me At All • 2023

“I write so many songs that there’s always some casualties, some songs that I love that don’t end up making it onto a record for reasons other than my affection for them. This is one of those songs. It’s a love song written when I felt worried that I didn’t have enough to give. And I guess that still remains to be seen.” - Sarah Mary Chadwick

πŸŽ™️ ifitbeyour will Ep. 15 • Jaguar Sun

One man Canadian band Jaguar Sun is the brainchild of multi instrumentalist Chris Minielly.  His approach to crafting his music is remarkable,  a truly bedroom dream pop kinda guy doing everything from writing, recording, mixing, promoting and playing all his music himself in his home studio. We had a wonderful conversation about how he builds his songs, how his music went viral and what is coming down the line for Jaguar Sun.
🌞 Enjoy πŸŽ™️

Taking inspiration from bands such as STRFKR, Youth Lagoon and Panda Bear, Minielly’s music fuses dreamlike soundscapes with alt-pop. Jaguar Sun boasts a flair for instrumentation, effortlessly balancing layered guitars with synths and vocals - a great example of how his artistic autonomy shines through when making creative decisions. lastFM
