Baker Island - Spanish Trails - 2015

Reminds me of Boat - such a nice slacker element coded into this release. Early days of indie rock are flooding into my mind… I like it!
Well done boys!

Yorkshire Fields - YF - 2015

Labelled as "surfadelic shitgaze," yeah I get it!
The music is electro induced surf pop with humble vocals - pretty fun listen as the sun heats it all up.

Max Gowan - Big People - 2015

“Big People” is a collection of 12 songs that I wrote, recorded, and mixed at my house. It’s a rock album with a touch of Lo-Fi (this is mainly just a product of my circumstances, though) and all drums, guitar, bass, vocals, and synths were recorded by me. The majority of the influence for the album comes from artists like Elliott Smith, Wilco, Alex G, Elvis Depressedly, and maybe even a little bit of Modest Mouse. Every day after school for the majority of my senior year I came home and worked on this until my head hurt. I was more interested in making songs that all fit into one theme and one album rather than a collection of hits. I’ve always loved albums that were meant to be heard all the way through, and that’s what this album is all about.

VARSITY - VARSITY - 2015

"And although the newer songs feel more acutely defined in their structure, the tunes also feel like a natural progression from earlier works. The group's strongest core elements — its attention to sharp lyrics, winning guitar riffs, sweet melodies — are still there. This personal taste and direction make VARSITY unlike many of its local peers. The band formed only two years ago, and yet its music sounds refined and sophisticated, with a level of charisma that would typically be found in a group years older. Fans (new and old alike) will soon reap the rewards." - CHICAGO TRIBUNE

"Chicago quintet VARSITY humorously describes its music as, “too cute for the punks, to raw for the bubble-gummers," and that, "they’d probably be Iggy Pop’s first choice for his daughter’s Bat Mitzvah.” It’s an apt comparison considering in concert, the band takes summery pop hooks and gives them a distinctly rough edge, like if acts like Tennis or Best Coast had more crunchy guitar riffs and piercing rock jams." - CHICAGO REDEYE

"Well, it's certainly no Sgt. Pepper's." - VARSITY

Husbands - GOAT // SOME SURF - 2015

We've written a number of NBA/OKC related songs, including a song about when Serge went down in the Western Conference Finals. Neither of these songs are about the NBA. However, the GOAT diction makes it into one of Danny's songs here. I'm not sure who the GOAT is in this song, though. "Some Surf" was one of the five songs we recorded - at least in part - last November in Nashville, and I'm really happy we shaped it up into publishable form.

Chook Race - About Time - 2015

Gavin Hellyer When you sit down to listen to this 30 minute record just make sure you have an hour to spare because there's no way you'll only be able to listen to it once. More great music from Melbourne, this is just fantasic with bits of The Velvets, Love, The Byrds and heaps of other great influences, plus their own very unique and original sound.

Tigers Jaw - Charmer - 2014

Nice composition of sounds, clashing together making a fairly nice mix of fast/slow tunes - they got the alternative thing going on pretty well on this one.

Tony-b Machine

The Ataris - Record Store Day 2015

This is a collection of new songs, demos, b-sides, instrumental tracks and one live song comprised for Record Store Day 2015.

These songs are available exclusively from our Bandcamp page.

Death Vessel - Island Intervals - 2014

Death Vessel’s Joel Thibodeau’s slender, winsome voice, at once so comforting and so unsettling might be the greatest of his many strengths. Reed-thin but sturdy, youthful but somehow ageless, its deep benevolence is also slightly eerie, and the way he gently walks the line between intense feeling and contemplative remove lets him sing from a timeless place where he evokes the beauty of vanished people and places, sweetness too profound for words, loss too great for tears. Joel’s is a voice that demands its own sonic and lyrical world, and with Island Intervals, his third record as Death Vessel (and second for Sub Pop), we’re treated to the sound of him finding a rich and strange new home among new friends in Iceland who probably saw him as a long-lost relative. For his first album since 2008’s acclaimed Nothing Is Precious Enough for Us, Joel traveled to Reykjavik on an invitation from Sigur Ros singer Jónsi and producer Alex Somers, where they spent three months together conjuring an album that’s both a song cycle and a window into a mysterious and singular landscape.

Cuushe - Night Lines - 2015

INCL. Nite Jewel, Populous, Dntel Remix!!!

Cuushe now returns with the Night Lines EP, her fourth proper release. Night Lines is presented as a noir storybook, unfolding along four tracks to expose a haunting Japanese soundscape, complete with bad guys, funeral processions and skyscraper-sized floral arrangements. The lyrics were penned by Cuushe with underlying productions composed by aus. Many sounds were sourced from films, animations and field recordings, with designs of obscuring timelines and the perception of reality.
Night Lines is set for release on April 7 on 10” vinyl and CD as a collaboration between Cascine and flau. North American tour dates are currently being routed.

Dog Legs - Holiday - 2015

Garage pop band blasting out of the UK….

Death And The Maiden - Death And The Maiden - 2015

On their debut album, Death And The Maiden craft a shadowy sound world, filled with melancholic synth arpeggios, reverb-drenched guitars, and sighing vocal melodies. The combination is both hypnotic and devastating, exploring themes of love, loss, and decay, wrapped in tactile electro-acoustic languor. A party record for heartbroken romantics.

“The combination of drum machines, amniotic synth wash and guitars evoke select Hacienda-era Factory bands and the Sheffield Sound (think Section 25 or Chris & Cosey), while Lucinda King’s haunting, reverb-drenched vocals generate an incantatory power...” [The Corner]

Different Skeletons - Devils - 2014

Different Skeletons is the moniker under which three individuals write, record and perform "rock and roll" songs in Toronto, Ontario. Really good!

Cloud Mammoth - Between the Sounds of Sleep - 2015

They called this one slothcore which upon listening I get the picture… Very nice relation music with a sonic edge that is sure to keep you honest.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy & broeder Dieleman - Split 7" - 2015

In 2014 Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and broeder Dieleman played a tour together, consisting of eight fully acoustic shows spread throughout the Netherlands. The tour was sold out within an hour, and plenty of reason for both artists to do a follow-up.

The result was a split 7" for Record Store Day 2015. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy is regarded as an inspiration for, and is praised by, many great international recording artists. His songs have previously been covered by the likes of Johnny Cash and Mark Lanegan. For this 2015 RSD release he translated 'Gloria' by broeder Dieleman into English. Broeder Dieleman covered Oldham's Three Questions in Zealandic dialect.

Crown Larks - Blood Dancer - 2015

“… exists at the intersection of the free rock, avant-garde jazz, and outre improvisation scenes which have long been a hallmark of the city’s music culture. “Blood Mirage” is the first taste of their upcoming debut Blood Dancer. A lumbering, slow-burn intro is worth the wait as Crown Larks launch into an unexpectedly tight groove, smearing healthy dollops of saxophone over an energetic percussion attack that reframes the preceding skronk as a storm-before-the-calm palate cleanser. in an admirable display of patience they have waited until now to unleash their debut long-player. The authentic chemistry that results from hours upon hours of gigging is heard throughout Blood Dancer.” - AdHoc

“… an avant-garde melting pot that depicts what happens when musicians on the same wavelength fuse mind, energy, and talents together as a unified communal-like force. ‘Overgrown’ is not your parent’s side b singular jam band track, but Crown Larks’ experimentation in creating plant and tree like textures that grow before your ears and eyes upon listening. Jack’s voice guides you through the evergreen tall grass, wild grown hedges, the thick of the woods until the Larks transform the entire soundscape into a jungle of amplified orations. Guitars grind against the droning meditation, as synths make circles like a dizzying swarm of birds, buzzards, and scuzzed out fuzz that blares and beats like scuffed up trainers stomping on a yoga mat. In under eight minutes you will have felt as if an entire natural habitat bloomed before you.” - Impose

My Brightest Diamond - I Had Grown Wild - 2015

As impressive as her list of recent collaborators, Shara Worden’s voice and arresting live performances have left audiences thunderstruck from the Sydney Opera house to Lincoln Center to the House of Blues. She’s performed under the experimental-pop moniker My Brightest Diamond for the last seven years, and counts The National, The Decemberists, Bon Iver, David Byrne as friends and fans.

Patkus - Nigel's Brie - 2015

"The looping layers of sounds show various shades of color and build with intensity... A comforting collection of amazingly well crafted soundscapes." - Custom Made Music

CRISTINA QUESADA - You Are The One - 2015

“You Are The One” is a delicacy - moving and enjoyable. Cristina Quesada and her delicious voice give us a good handful of extraordinary minutes on this first album, which is a diverse and incredible collection, with a ton of covers and some original songs. The album is lucky enough to include a fantastic collaboration with Javi and Coral from BAND À PART and Luis Elefant. Cristina uses the songs that she has hand-selected by other artists and creates her own world with them, one that is as delicate as her way of singing is. And that is how she gives us this “You Are The One”, which is beyond a shadow of a doubt a huge delight to even the most stubborn music lovers.

THOUSAND - s/t - 2015

label: talitres.com

Great release with lots of melodic instrumentation, groovy one might say.
Worth a spin!

Telescopes as Time Machines - Quiet, World - 2015

A recent submission; dark, hard, emo tunes with lots of gusto and rigidity… Glad to know that music is still being blasted out of the basement, even when mom says "TURN IT DOWN" - this music won't change your life but it might help when you need a little help venting.

Munroe - Summer - 2015 single

Somehow, in between filming ABC’s ‘Resurrection’ and living in Los Angeles, Munroe was able to record seven original tracks with co-producer and fellow Hamiltonite Michael Keire. Munroe features instrumentals from friends and collaborators such as Noah Fralick of Young Rival, Ben Munoz of New Hands, Julie Fader of Etiquette, Billy Holmes of Dark Mean, and Steve McKay of YerYard and incorporates lo-fi influences like Mazzy Star, west coast flavor of the Best Coast, and haunting tones of Timber Timbre and Angel Olsen
Aside from learning guitar basics from her father, Kathleen is generally self-taught on a variety of instruments - including piano, guitar, and ukulele. “This album was definitely a learning experience,” she explains. “We wanted to create a certain tone, there was a lot of trial and error and ultimately some restraint, opting for stripped-down versions on songs instead of adding too many layers.”

Featherfin - Butterfly Girl EP - 2015

Featherfin is an art and music project from Norway. The music is based on electronics, but has an organic pop-flavoured feel. Melody and harmonies are close to Featherfin's heart. He is inspired by everything from indiepop and noisy pop via folk and 60s pop to synth pop, electronica and modern experimental music. Sometimes his music is sweet, simple and cute, other times dark and complex.

gorgeous bully - dumb ideals - 2015

so simple, so sweet
bedroom pop with outrageously linear melodies - easy to feel this music in the dark minutes of the day…

Candids - Love EP - 2015

Leapling - Vacant Page - 2015

quite interesting album going on here, some musical bits of The Sea and Cake and lyrical chunks of Death Cab for Cutie.

scott murphy Shiny, fuzzy, and intricately decorated. Can not wait for more music from this band!

Mute Forest - Infinity Pools EP - 2015

"Like watching a gray, drizzly dawn over a dystopian future-metropolis" - STEREOGUM

"The highly promising EP combines elements of folk, found sound and ambient soundscapes that conjures up the timeless sounds of Helios, Benoît Pioulard and a host of other electro-acoustic milestones" - FRACTURED AIR

To coincide with visuals courtesy of Gregory Euclide (Bon Iver, Erased Tapes), Smith’s debut EP fuses acoustic sounds, mangled electronics and provocative lyrics across four meditative yet mesmerizing tracks

The Fairlight Myth - Alpha November - 2015

Alpha November c/w Love Repeats - one side a call to arms, the other a warm embrace - takes some of the fresh, post Specials POP of the Colourfield, adds some early OMD synth naivety, then drops in some class A Jens Lekman scando-POP, with nod to the melancholy of Abba’s the Visitors.

Heart Beach - Heart Beach - 2015

Gavin Hellyer I don't know the level of acknowledgement or sales these Tasmanians are going to get from this record, but whatever the figures, it will be a lot less than they deserve, because they have made an absolutely stellar LP. And even though some of the tracks will be known to fans through a semi-regular singles release program over the past couple of years, there's still enough new tracks to keep everyone happy. Well done guys, and congratulations on a very, very fine album indeed.

German Error Message - Haunts - 2014

nice relaxing, meandering lo-fi acoustic tunes… well played…

Igor Khabarov - Be - 2015

Igor Khabarov lives in a small village not far from St.Petersburg, Russia. As a youth he began making music with computers, then a school friend taught him how to play the piano. Soon after he decided to study at a local music school. Khabarov was the oldest student in the school and finished the coursework three years ahead of schedule. Like neo-classical HUSH labelmate Nils Frahm he posesses both incredible dexterity as a pianist, and minimalist restraint as a composer. HUSH is pleased to share his debut recording Be with the world.

Blimp Rock - Sophomore Slump - 2015

Very nice release from some fellow Canadians - dead pan vocals intermingle with muffled guitar chords creating melodic songs with fun narratives.

420 love songs - 2013

So many great artists, so many great artist all making music in the name of love!

The Grey Estates vs GoldFlakePaint - The Pale Light Between - 2015

This is a joint compilation between two music blogs: The Grey Estates and GoldFlakePaint. We really hope you enjoy it.

flout - gims - 2015

gims is a collection of songs by the New York based John DeRosso (aka flout). Gradually appearing on his Bandcamp page over the space of 2 months, the album is made up of a collection of yearning, softly sung bedroom pop songs “about being an adult, and coming to terms with a realized faulty version of yourself”.

Although it seems lazy to draw comparisions to other bedroom pop heroes (Alex G, R.L. Kelly, Gorgeous Bully) the elements that made all of the aforementioned so endearing and excellent are present here. The sound of someone finding their feet whilst making understated pop songs complete with all the perfect imperfections that come with recording at home. As John says himself “I wouldn’t change a thing about it. The constant clearing of my throat, my cat meowing after track 1, the footsteps of my roommates on the hardwood floors present on many tracks, the shouts of seamen on the titanic attempting to avoid an iceberg at the end of track 7, and all of those other “blemishes” encapsulate the cathartic days and nights recording this fledgling body of work.”

The short running time (11 tracks in just under 22 minutes) leaves you yearning for more and I’ve lost count of the amount of times, I’ve quickly stuck the album on whilst walking somewhere or waiting for something to happen. It somehow achieves the accolade of being one of our most fragile releases but also one of our most self assured and I’m extremely happy to be releasing it.

April's devious experiment, entitled frozen spring!
