Grimes - Crystal Ball [2012]

Grimes - Crystal Ball from Tim Kelly on Vimeo.

hauntingly good...

Aaaaah oh oh ah
(I reach for you in the dark)
Mother
I reach for you in the dark

Holding on and I can't decide
and I can't decide on him (ah)
Holding on and I can't seem to
can't seem to oh begin
Holding on (I won't) and I got my mind (I can't)
and I got my heart (I know) and I'm in a fire
Holding on (I won't) and I can't decide (I can't)
on him (I know)

The New Album

Yoo Hoo! Imperial Teen [2012]

Yoo Hoo it's finally here!

The fifth album by Imperial Teen, Feel the Sound, succeeds completely at its goal, plainly stated in the collection’s title. Like the sharpest pop music, Feel the Sound gets you to keep coming back for more, but unlike so much music today, it rewards you for doing so, giving you the experience of a fulfilled and yet still yearning, lively potential, one that will be further realized when the songs are performed live. From the exhilarating, propulsive “Runaway,” which features the entire band on lead vocals (how many other groups can make that claim?), to the expansive final statement of “Overtaken,” Roddy Bottum, Lynn Perko Truell, Will Schwartz, and Jone Stebbins feel the sound themselves and, in turn, make the listener feel it in ways immediate and pleasurable but also lasting and haunting. Dad Rocks! - Mount Modern [2011]

Indie Folk/Pop

Mount Modern is one of the albums of the year without question - Albertsson’s is a unique, gentle and much-needed authorial voice that humanises our often trend-fixated indie turf, and Dad Rocks! is a new band that feels like it should have always been here. This album positively glows with world-wise gentility, and I willingly join the fast-growing legion of Dad Rocks! devotees who can barely contain their excitement for what comes next...

An amazing album everyone should listen to!

Dad Rocks! - Battle Hymn of the Fox Father

The music video to the track "Battle Hymn of the Fox Father" by Dad Rocks! of the album ' Mount Modern'. (www.dadrocks.tumblr.com)

Nourishing nests of tiger-moms and helicopter-dads
Put chicks to rest with naked palms and throw em to the rats
From helicopter platforms
Killer litter
And fumes from the city fill ethic committees
With watery eyes and faces all gritty
Call me a quitter
This battle is lost to the new-borns in foster homes
Raised on low costs on logins for twitter
Heavy hitters
And pro-eco acts are discouraged by taxes
Who rely on facts that foxes arent bitter
Call me a quitter
This battle is lost to the new-borns in foster homes
Raised on low costs and logins for twitter
A vanishing past for a battle-fox and all that he has
Diminishing faster that food supplies and effort against theft
Followed by laughter
My beauty on a bright January day...

James Vs. Le Monstre [2012]

We recently celebrated my older brother's Birthday at a great little restaurant in Montreal called El Zaziummm... They have a sandwich, Le Monstre Californian they named it - you eat it all you get a t-shirt. Great expectations fell away short of their mark on his 41st.

Scary, but real! That sandwich is real... Real I say.
Our lovely waiter told him his arrogance was his downfall!
Yeah Right!

Perfume Genius - 'Hood' [2012]

Have you ever been moved by a video featuring an effeminate young man cradled in the arms of a hirsute porn star? Well, if you haven't then you might enjoy this new video from Mike Hadreas, aka Perfume Genius.

You would never call me baby
If you knew me truly
Oh but I waited so long for your love
I am scared baby that I can't keep it up for long

Boy I wish I grow up the second
I first held you in my arms
Uderneath this hurt you kiss
I'll take like balm

You would never call me baby
If you knew me truly
Oh but I waited so long
For you love
I will fight baby not to do ...

Vetiver on KCRW - worse for wear [2011]

CT xox

forget about the things she did
her careless ways, her secrets hid

well now you're free, no worse for wear
to find someone who really cares

oh all of that'll feel right, oh that'll feel right
they tell me now, and it might be true
but i just can't keep my mind off you

the tender trust, my hopes betrayed
withered like an old bouquet

you and I suffered the way that young lovers will
oughta now spent up on how i need you still

only now you're really moving on
funny how you've already moved on

captive by what could've been
looking for a window in

its enough to break your brittle heart
but you didn't want to take part

all happiness is sad
all happiness is sad
i need you now

Albert Einstein Vs. Liam

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."
"A person starts to live when he can live outside himself."
"Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing."
"Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding."
"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts."

VERSUS

"I like gum cause I said so"
"I love my sister cause she let me be Ken; he a boy doll like me"
"Ice makes the ground cold and die"
"I scared of the dark cause people come in the window" - our reflections :-)

The Story of The Pogues [2012]

cira 1983

The birth of a band: at a London flat some eight years ago, Shane MacGowan, who had more of his teeth back then, picked up a guitar and started to play an old Irish tune, Paddy Worked at the Railways. He played it fast; he played it very fast, in the best postpunk, frontal-assault style. His pal Spider Stacy clocked MacGowan's hands at "940 light-years an hour." That time, of course, was unofficial. But looking back now, it has become the official beginning of the Pogues...
The Pogues muscled mainstream folk music out of its rut. Their raucous, carefully heedless style opened the way for the Hothouse Flowers, the Proclaimers and the Waterboys, three of the best bands working the newly fertile field of electric folk... time

The Story of The Silver Jews

The Silver Jews have been a favourite of mine since the beginning. The earlier albums were characterized by a raw, poetic melding, followed in the later years with a more seasoned delivery...
Poet and song writer David Berman is a rebel, a mess and a mensch. Since 1993, as a frontman for the Silver Jews, he has chronicled disaffection and loss with quirky, intelligent humour and sharp, often ambiguous lyrics...
These people like Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and Willie Nelson, they were all told that they couldn't sing their own songs. These are the people who were writing the interesting songs, who had something to say, and they knew that they were the only ones who could say it right ... When I listen to music, I want to hear a person and a person that I trust. I don't want to hear the sound of a culture ...

loafeye remix: everybody knows

This song was recorded a couple of summers ago, but never mixed or released; it will be included on loafeye's new record. I took a simple folk ditty I wrote and tried to deconstruct it a bit to give a bit more texture and life.

The Story of The Violent Femmes

The Grandfathers of Folk-Punk. Rock's dadaist improvisors. Calcified fossils of teen angst. American roots minimalists. The sonic personification of anxiety. Blues cubists. Spokesmen for misfits. These are just a few of the phrases that come to mind upon thinking of the Femmes... The Femmes are an old time singing group in the sixties mold. All three of them sing their hearts out for almost the entire show. Gano’s distinctive whine has influenced everyone from Billy Corgan to Bob Dylan...The Femmes first album has sold millions of copies. Their newest album has sold hundreds of copies... Rolling Stone magazine said Gano's voice "can clear a room faster than a methane explosion... Gordon and Brian played their first show together at Gordon's National Honor Society Program. Gordon told them he would play an innocuous song, but instead the duo performed "Gimme the Car." When a riot erupted Gordon was expelled from the honor society...
a few fun facts about The Violent Femmes; my favourite songs are on this exclusive mix! Enjoy...

loafeye Remix Song: Antidote [2012]

I have been working on a few new/old songs, mixing, adding, subtracting, placing, cutting, etc... A few late nights have produced this result. I like the lyrics on this song, good imagery that accompanies a rather post-pop musicality. Have a listen; comments are welcomed :-)

A year of photos

Electro-Indie Covers [Vol. 12 of Series]

I have been in need of some mind numbing music as of late, the kind that beats into your brain and interrupts meandering thoughts with a solid spanking of electro melody of the highest order; and they are all covers to boot. The tracks on this compilation are upbeat and uptempo transforming most weepy indie slackers to smiling indie slackers with at least one trembling extremity. Get shaking.
